Every so often you get an event that warrants true indulgence. Last night was one such night. Sommelier Mia Martensson from The Winery of Good Hope was here to host an evening of wine and food pairing at Chefs Warehouse. We knew it was going to be good. But it was even better than expected. Liam didn’t hold back with his dishes, the wines were outstanding and everyone got into the swing of things. How could they not, with a menu that was, well, it’s difficult to describe, so we thought we’d just let you have a look yourself…  (And if you missed it, don’t worry, we’ll be doing more!)

The Art of Pairing Food & Wine.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Swedish-born sommelier Mia Mårtensson from the Winery of Good Hope will guide guests through the art of food and wine pairing in this fun evening, the first of our August classes. Together with 12 dishes prepared by Liam himself, Mia will take guests through 6 different varietals to explore the flavour dynamics,  show the versatility of food and wine and provide a new perspective on the relationship between the two. The objective is to encourage one to build a broader understanding of the subject through combinations that really set off the wine and food partnership perfectly.

Mia is a qualified chef and sommelier (Restaurant Academy in Stockholm) that worked in Michelin-star restaurants in Europe for several years before heading to South Africa in 2005. Before joining the Winery of Good Hope she was the sommelier at the Relais & Chateau Grand Roche Hotel in Paarl for three years.

On the evening, Liam will provide recipes to go with dishes and will answer any questions regarding the food preparation. The class is on 4th of August from 18h30 – 21h30; cost is R650 per person. Seating is limited to 16 people to ensure an intimate and truly interactive food & wine experience. Please get in touch to reserve your place now!

Champagne Evening with Henri Giraud.

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Chefs Warehouse will host an intimate evening exploring the (very) fine world of Champagne on the 28th of June. Boutique Champagne importer and distributor Inke Gouws will be our guest, taking us through six wines from one of the most revered Champagne houses in France, Champagne Henri Giraud. The world’s most powerful wine personality, Robert Parker, has called the wines, “Totally seductive, sexy wine blessed with extraordinary purity.” Need we say more?

Guy Harcourt-Wood, our resident wine expert, will also provide insights into the Champagne region, the grape varieties and their role in the wines, as well as the intricate Champagne production process. Liam will also prepare six dishes to pair with these superb wines, so it’s bound to be a great night of food and wine.

The cost to attend is R600 per person; to book, please call Rachel on 021 422 0128 or email us.

An exciting class coming in July, Guy will host an evening of International Wines under R100 where he’ll take guests through some of his favourites from France, Spain and Portugal. There hasn’t been a better time to sample foreign wines than now, with the currency playing in our favour and a greater selection available than ever before. More info to come…
