The Brasserie AT THE BAILEY

Who says you need to fly to Paris to experience the soul-satisfying comfort and finesse of French food? Or to have a classically kitted-out server roll a guéridon trolley to your table and prepare a traditional steak tartare?! Mesdames et Messieurs, look no farther than Bree Street.

The brasserie has been defined by the French as an unpretentious and relaxed restaurant where simple, hearty fare is served. Liam Tomlin has always been fanatical about the food, aesthetic and service of European brasseries. It was his dream to create a dining space with the character, depth and simplicity of a classic French brasserie…in Cape Town.

Grand and elegant, The Brasserie at The Bailey truly looks the part, and is the only place in town where you can get an abundance of classical French and French-inspired dishes with the old-school respectful service integral to this kind of dining experience.

Here, standards matter. But so does a relaxed evening…no need to ‘fake it til you make it’ just to order your food off a menu. We believe that just as French food should be beautiful, it should not be intimidating.

Deep but not heavy sauces balanced with freshness, food with all the flavours patiently coaxed out and onto your plate…this is The Brasserie’s respectful nod to the French culinary tradition, using the best of South African local produce.

Choose a two, three or four course meal, with plenty of options. Keep it strictly classical -- with French onion soup complete with gruyere croûtes, Bouillabaisse or beef fillet with pommes frites – or mix it up with French-inspired dishes from Liam.

Get your fix of tableside service, from Chateaubriand for two carved from a cart, to well-curated cheese and dessert trolleys. Delve into a superb wine list. And last but not least, enjoy the show: a team of well-trained smartly-uniformed servers led by a skilled Maître d’ is there to make your evening seamless.

At the Brasserie, art and food are inseparable companions: lovingly chosen artworks are everywhere on the walls of this restored heritage building. For something special, book your next group dinner or executive meeting at the Paul du Toit Studio Private Dining Room. The late South African contemporary artist was a good friend of Liam’s, and the room is a visual tribute to him, and a great setting for a celebratory feast.
